Avez-vous connu l'époque glorieuse de l'Atari 2600 ? Que dire de ce système : concrètement il est complètement obsolète au niveau du graphisme et du son mais possède certains jeux qui offrent une jouabilité parfaite... On ne peut pas l'ignorer, il a été la première pièce de l'industrie du jeu vidéo familial.
L'Atari 2600 a été mis sur le marché en Octobre 1977, il a été le premier jeu vidéo familial intégrant un microprocesseur. Par rapport à ses prédécesseurs (Pong, rappelez vous, le jeu de Tennis...), ce système était révolutionnaire : tout d'abord il offrait la couleur, des capacités graphiques et sonores au top de la technologie grand public de l'époque et la possibilité de choisir son jeu sous la forme de cartouches. C'est cette dernière caractéristique qui a véritablement propulsé l'Atari 2600 en direction des sommets de la popularité !

Créé par Joe Decuir, Steve Mayer et Ron Milner ce système a fait le bonheur d'Atari jusqu'au 7 décembre 1982. Ce jour a été le tournant du premier acte de l'industrie du jeu vidéo : Atari en annonçant de mauvaises ventes sur certains produits (le jeu ET a été bâclé, Pac-Man était trop éloigné de la borne d'arcade, la production de cartouches trop importante...) a affolé la bourse et a précipité l'ensemble de l'industrie du jeu vidéo en 1983 dans la récession.

Les deux boutons supplémentaires servaient à sélectionner la difficulté. Dès le second modèle, ces deux boutons ont été rapatriés sur le carter arrière afin de réduire les coûts. Pratiquement pas importé en France, ce modèle fait le bonheur des collectionneurs ! |

L'atari 2600, en plus de ses multiples déclinaisons, a été largement copié de par le monde. J'ai 2 clones, 1 relativement classique (Tv-Boy) et un autre plus intéressant !

A gauche, la boite du Tv-Boy. Ce clone, alimenté par 4 piles, se présente comme un joystick et se connecte directement au poste de télévision par l'intermédiaire d'une prise péritel.
Relativement bien diffusé, on arrive encore à le trouver de nos jours. Les jeux, identiques à ceux de l'Atari 2600 (il y en a 126 différents) ne comportent pas de marque de copyright... |

Ci-dessous, la boite du second clone. Identique à un Atari 2600 Junior, il intègre cependant 128 cartouches. Contrairement au précédent, il comporte un connecteur pour insérer des jeux...
Beaucoup plus rare que le Tv-Boy, il est difficile à dénicher... |

Ci-contre, la console Tv Games fabriquée par JAKKS Pacific (USA), un clône officiel de l'Atari 2600. Cette manette intègre 10 jeux ainsi que la console (en plus des piles). Que de miniaturisation en 25 ans, entre la sortie de l'Atari (1977) et cette console (2002) ! |
